Paso Robles Senior Center 93446
I stopped by the senior center today. I was greeted warmly by Dick, age 85, who told me he used to work at Walmart but that he needed to find something new. Dick volunteered to work at the senior center. He introduced me to Lynda Holt, the Recreation Coordinator. Lynda is a very energetic person who gladly spent time with a person she never met before, myself. After chatting with Lynda, I went with Dick to tour the facility. I learned that the center is growing quickly to the point where space is at a premium. I saw at least six women in one small office. They were attending a hands-on knitting class. In another room a large number of people were playing cards. I think they were playing bridge and poker but I did not want to disturb them to find out for sure. In a room along the south wall (the entrance faces west) I saw a large covered pool table and some more people standing and chatting. "We are getting rid of the pool table," said Dick. The space could be put to better use since the table is not being used too often. A few of the many activities you can enjoy are computer classes, flexercise class, Friday socials, Java with the Guys (men's group), free legal aid, life story interviews (Vicky Reeder conducts interviews and redcords thenm for you to keep), Scrabble games, income tax assistance, a walking goup, Yoga class, Writers Group and a writer's critique group, and much much more. Volunteers are always welcome. Before I left I made sure to join the center. The cost is only $10 per year per household. I hear you can buy breakfast there daily for a couple of bucks. The Paso Robles Senior Center is open five days a week from 8AM to 5PM.
